Hello,
I am trying to find my Great Granddad’s parents to further my family tree, my Great Grandad being Arthur Jefferson Montague born 5th November 1868 in St. George, Bermuda. Arthur married Fanny Frances King 21st October 1889 in Portsea Island near Portsmouth, England. Fanny was born 1872 in Portsea, England from the marriage certificate I know his Dad was Alfred with no occupation at that time but that’s all I know.
I have traced the family tree from Arthur down to me but cannot get back any further. I tried to get a copy of Arthur’s birth certificate but the Bermudian Registry office have no record of it.
I am on several geanology websites asking for help but have not found a connection yet and have also tried to contact St. Peter’s church in case they have any records of birth or Christenings but as of yet have not had a reply.
Can you advise any suggestions?
Thanks.
Andy Montague

A kind lady at the Records Office managed to find out (in Jan 2016) that Arthur Jefferson Montague was originally born Williams. Arthur was baptised in Devonshire parish 1st January 1869.
Benjamin Alfred Williams, aged 22, married 6th February 1868 Eliza Wilson, aged 18, therefore Benjamin was born circa 1846 but the death record Benjamin died from consumption 7th December 1869 which lists him as 24 years old, therefore, he was born circa 1845.
Eliza remarried to a Alfred Montague in Bermuda 1st January 1875 who was a Royal Artillery Bombardier originally from Kent, England. UK. This is when Arthur’s surname became Montague.
I am trying to find information on Benjamin’s parents, all I have is that his Dad was William Williams. There are a number of these in the 19th Century Church Registers of Bermuda but William Adolphus Williams seems to be the favourite time wise, of course I could be completely wrong.
Do you have any information that may help?
Thanks,
Andy
My husband is writing his father’s life story.
His father, Clive William Thornton Henderson was employed as a Pilot on Bermuda in the 1930s. Clive married Isabella Clacher (from Australia) at the Presbyterian Church in Hamilton on Dec 12, 1934 and their daughter Morna Joan, was born in Hamilton on 12 May 1936. They lived there for at least another year because he was the navigator on the ferry, South Steyne when it came out from Scotland to Sydney in July 1938.
Any information on Clive and Isabella whilst they were in Bermuda would be recieved with much delight.
Sincerely,
June Henderson.

I am looking for information on my great grandparents Charles & Agatha Smith. They had 10 children of whom I only have the names, Elsie, Gwendolyn, Inez, and Orville. We are researching the names of the other 6 siblings. My grandmother Elsie Hayward (nee Smith) died in 1981 leaving behind 13 children (Leroy, twins (Lois and Phyllis), Cecil, Hilton, Dorothy, Martha, Carol, Pearline, Eugene, Leonard, Violet, and Vorhees; and 1 deceased child. Any help you can provide is GREATLY appreciated.
Cheers!
Please give me some guidance as to how I can trace family history in Bermuda, Barbados & Montserrat please.
I need to search for births around 1875-1890.
Also Crew lists to St Johns, New Brunswick around 1890-1900 from all three islands and then to Cardiff, South Wales.
Many thanks.
Good day – Please note that our offices are still closed due to Covid-19 regulations. However, the National Museum of Bermuda has published the following blog entry: https://nmb.bm/2020/05/05/family-stories/?fbclid=IwAR1VqGt3le0e_cl6NjbgvDqkFbl7NRM9ZPZANbHAJQIjDkscWMJAhbHI6FY which offers links to geneology documents formerly only available in hard copy. Crew lists are not readily available, nor does the Bermuda National Library have information for Barbados and Montserrat. The blog entry also includes several Facebook groups that may be of assistance. – Ellen Hollis, Local Studies Librarian (ejhollis@gov.bm)
Hi. Researching information on Ann Elizabeth Kingsbeer, my direct ancestor, born in Bermuda 1824ish, daughter of Sarah Middleton and John Kingsbeer. I have found John Kingsbeer in Finagrave, along with 2 of his 3 children, Maria and Jonas. I’m presuming Ann was the only surviving child. She appears in the UK in 1842 where she marries Joseph Iredale.
I have found some snippets of info from the Bermuda Royal Gazette , but I’m having trouble finding birth records, or any records for that matter.
