BIG LIBRARY READ
NOVEMBER 1 – DECEMBER 15, 2024
Read the wonderful story “Thank you, Omu!” written and illustrated by Oge Mora. Tell us what you think about the book by submitted a response by ONE (1) of the following ways.
1. Submit a photo of you/your family reading “Thank you, Omu!”
2. Create your own family stew recipe OR submit a photo of you making stew
3. Write a short review about “Thank you, Omu!”
All entries will earn you a ticket for the prize draw on December 17th.

Come join us for a fun day at the Verdmont Museum. Our pirate themed day will be filled with activities for the whole family. Visit this beautiful National Trust property located at 6 Verdmont Lane, in Smiths parish. Come and imagine the interwoven 18th century lives of a merchant family and the families they enslaved as you tour Verdmont’s furnished rooms, museum exhibits and hilltop gardens. Three hundred years of natural and cultural heritage relating to us all awaits you at this historic house and property overlooking the island and sea.
Abigail Dream Adventures is on to a new adventure! Walk, skip and jump your way into reading at this new Storywalk location. Walk more steps, read more words! Abigail’s Dream Adventures was written by local author, Karen E. Franks.

Storytime is an early literacy program where we read books, sing songs, learn rhymes and fingerplays, and get moving with manipulatives like shakers, scarves, and a parachute. Here are some of the benefits of story time.

Reading has been associated as an early indicator of academic success. Public formal education does not typically start until ages 5-6. Before then, parents and caregivers are the first education providers during the 0-5 early critical years. The 1000 Books Before Kindergarten challenge is a simple (read a book, any book to your child, with the goal of reading 1,000 before kindergarten) and very manageable endeavor.
